Problem
NCCARE360 is a part of Unite Us, under the North Carolina division. NCCARE360 helps people connect with public access to health resources. With COVID on the rise, people need access to information about what they can do to prevent the spread. The site is unfortunately riddled with accessibility issues, as well as white space.
Solution
As a contract web designer for Unite Us, I was tasked to help redesign the NCCARE360 site to address visual hierarchy and accessibility issues.
UI Design
I wanted to create a better visual hierarchy for the site. While it wasn’t information heavy, there were valuable resources provided that were unfortunately hard to access.
I created a small style library to ensure design consistency across the site.
Design Revisions (Before)
After doing a design audit on the NCCARE360 page, I noted that there were some accessibility issues as well as visual hierarchy issues.

Conclusion
It was quite fun working on this redesign for NCCARE360, especially when pertaining to accessibility. Accessibility is something I’m really big on, so having the chance to improve that excited me. I was also excited to work on a health related site, especially during the pandemic. We wanted to make sure that visitors got the information they need about health insurance, as well as vaccinations.
-Updated as of 8/26/21: Looking back on this design now, I realize how much as a designer I have grown. Looking back at my old design work fondly but also with cringe, I realize that my younger designer self was too stuck in left aligning EVERYTHING, when it didn’t need to be. As I’ve gained more experience, I realized that design can be flexible, and I should be as well.
